Teenagers aged 15-17 formed the majority of those who had committed alcohol offenses, according to the police, but over a hundred under 15-year-olds were also among the offenders.

The alcohol found in young people’s possession was mostly mild, like beer and cider. However, the police also confiscated over 120 litres of hard liquor.

During the weekend, the police found nearly 1,500 children and teenagers drinking alcohol or in possession of it, which resulted in 750 police reports, summary penal orders and on-the-spot fines. The police also made 1,100 notifications to child protection authorities. There were 13 reports of drug-related crimes.

The police urge the parents of children and young people to set limitations for their children that would ensure healthy growth and development.

“Places where older youths meet and use significant amounts of alcohol aren’t suitable for minors,” notes police inspector Ari Järvenpää.
