Heavy rains in the south and east

Southern and eastern parts of Finland will be showered with rain today. The rain front may also bring thunderstorms and local hail. The Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI) says that the expected heavy rain may be 20mm per hour.

The rain front is moving from the Gulf of Finland to the northeast and the southeast. The heaviest rains in the south are forecast for Wednesday morning, while later in the day eastern and north-eastern Finland will get the brunt of the weather front.

The FMI has given a rain warning for the provinces of Uusimaa, Kymenlaakso, South Karelia, South Savo and North Karelia. Rains may be heavy in places, but no major flooding is on the cards.

The weather will calm by the evening. The FMI forecasts a partly dry and clear night, though rains are still possible overnight in the south.
