A report from the Finnish Real Estate Federation predicts that housing costs will increase by 12 percent nationally by the year 2015. In the Helsinki region they may shoot up by 13 to 16 percent.
The study says that the sharpest rises will be in residential expenses for pensioners and renters.
The costs set to go up the most are heating, electricity and water.
In the future, low-income people and retirees will be forced to spend a larger proportion of their income on these items, the report warns.
