Cab owners in trouble as fewer customers hail

Taxi entrepreneurs are facing difficulties, since demand for taxi rides has dropped this autumn. Not even the season of pre-Christmas office parties is expected to revive the trade.

Statistics from the Finnish Taxi Owners Federation indicate that the last two months were particularly bad. The number of taxi rides shrunk by about five percent in the Jyväskylä, Turku and Vaasa regions. In Helsinki as well fewer people are hailing cabs.

Last year, cold weather boosted taxi owners' income as people sought refuge in cabs. However this year's mild temperatures are not helping their plight. Many parts of Finland are experiencing the mildest autumn in decades.
