In the south west, over one million cubic metres of timber fell in the high winds. Damage in the area have been set at 40 million euros.
A million cubic metres of timber were also felled in the provinces of Häme and Uusimaa. Losses in Pirkanmaa totaled half a million cubic metres and in South Ostrobothnia between 0.2 and 0.3 million.
The price paid for timber felled by storms is usually below regular market prices because of the extra expense involved in harvest the trees and the lower quality of the wood.
Losses to forest owners are in the range of 15% to 25% of normal value, totally an estimated 25-30 million euros.
