Furthermore, automatic speed cameras caught about 1,500 heavy-footed drivers.

In Finland, a total of 4,692 drivers were found speeding during the campaign. Throughout Europe, the number was over 660,000.

The crackdown centered particularly on areas prone to accidents.

The European Traffic Police Network TISPOL organised the campaign. The network’s campaigns focus on the main contributors to traffic fatalities including speeding, drinking and driving, and neglecting to buckle up. Police estimate that around 5,800 lives would be spared annually in Europe if drivers would abide by speed limits.
