Over a Million Finnish TV Viewers Watch Royal Wedding

Well over one million Finns were glued to their television sets for the wedding of Crown Princess Victoria to commoner Daniel Westling on Saturday. A viewing audience peak of 1,080,000 viewers was registered on Saturday evening.

Over half a million Finns were still watching the evening festivities after midnight.

However, the record for viewing a royal event still remains the wedding of Princess Diana in 1981 when around 1.5 million people in Finland watching the ceremony on television.

Commercial broadcaster MTV3 also broadcast the wedding ceremony live from Stockholm on Saturday.

Crown Princess Victoria and her former fitness trainer, Daniel Westling exchanged vows in Stockholm Cathedral on Saturday. Westling has assumed the title of Prince Daniel, Duke of Västergötland.
