Rehn: G20 Finds Common Tune

European Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs Olli Rehn, who took part in the G20 meeting in Toronto, says that the countries taking part in the meeting managed to reach agreement in the face of challenges confronting the world economy. Rehn told YLE from Toronto that the agreement to cut deficits by 2013 is a realistic goal.

“A common tune has been found among G20 leaders on how to achieve the right balance between the sustainability of the public economy and measures that support sustainable growth. It is very important for the sustainable growth of the world economy, as well as for improving employment. For this reason, Finnish jobs are also at stake,” Olli Rehn said.

"Positive Common Spirit"

Rehn said that there was a powerful feeling in Toronto that all of the countries are in the same boat. He warned against exaggerating differences between the United States and Europe on when economic stimulus should be stopped.

“This debate has been shadow boxing to some extent. People have talked past each other to some degree, and this is why this meeting is a good one, because there has been a good common spirit."
