One of two young people who had been hospitalised after taking an overdose of the synthetic opiate died on Thursday. The victim was a woman aged around 20. Police had previously reported the death of a man of about the same age.

Police have arrested three people in connection with the case. The case is being investigated as a suspected aggravated drug crime. One of the suspects has been released from custody, and police will decide by Saturday whether to ask that the two others, Kuopio men aged 33 and 43, should be remanded in custody.

Last month in southwest Finland, two people died after overdosing on fentanyl, which is many times stronger than heroin.
