Entrepreneurship Not an Attractive Career Choice

Finns don't consider setting up their own business to be an attractive choice of career, according to an entrepreneurship barometer survey carried out for the first time in October.

However, more than 80 percent of Finns are in favour of state subsidies given to new entrepreneurs. According to respondents, such support should include the improvement of working conditions for small businesses. Other measures would be to favour Finnish goods and services and to make the corporate tax rate more competitive.

The independence and freedom offered by being one's own boss were the main perks of owning a business, according to respondents.

The study targeted entrepreneurs who had been in business for fewer than five years, as well as the general public. Some 1,600 entrepreneurs and 1,000 members of the public responded to the survey.
