A weather front bringing snowfall Thursday moved across southern and central regions towards the north east. The general level of snowfall was between 10 cm and 15 cm, but heavier in some areas. As of Thursday, the snow cover exceeded 10 cm in central and northern Lapland and Kainuu, as well as in most of North Karelia, North Savo and North Ostobothnia. Some localities in the south reported over 10 cm, while the deepest snow cover measured on Thursday morning was 36 cm at Inari in northern Lapland.
Nationwide, the snow cover is slightly above the average for mid-November.
The Finnish Meteorological Institute forecasts that as the precipitation gradually moves east, it will be replaced by a high-pressure area bringing drier, colder weather for the rest of the week, with temperatures continuing to fall early next week.
