Christmas Lights Switched On in Helsinki's Aleksanterinkatu

Christmas lights were switched on in Helsinki’s main shopping thoroughfare Aleksanterinkatu on Sunday by the city’s Mayor, Jussi Pajunen. Following this, a Christmas procession paraded through the streets of the city centre.

Thousands of on-lookers watched the parade which included old trucks, vintage fire engines together with the Snow Queen, elves and forest animals. A horse-drawn Santa Claus also made an appearance.

Lights were turned on in Aleksanterinkatu for the 62nd time. The first Christmas Street was celebrated in the Finnish capital back in 1930.
