Snows Slow Emergency Response

Deep snows on Wednesday slowed the response times of emergency services vehicles in Helsinki. Walking in some parts of the city has been a challenge in recent days.

Officials at Helsinki's City Rescue Department said that snowy and slippery streets added several minutes to response times on Wednesday.

In some parts of town, emergency services vehicles were unable to reach destinations on streets or parking lots blocked by snow, leaving rescue workers to move on foot more than normal.

Over the past few days a number of ambulances and fire trucks have gotten stuck in drifts while on emergency runs.
