Up to 500 farmers are expected at the meeting in the south-western town of Huittinen to discuss the situation sparked by the end of EU subsidies in the south of Finland.
Farmers in the north are still eligible for the subsidies. The southern farmers accuse the Finnish Union of Agricultural Produces and Forest Owners (MTK) of favouring northern farmers at the expense of the south -- and have threatened to form their own splinter organisation. A representative of the MTK is to attend the meeting.
