Ice thickness is currently some five to fifteen centimetres thinner than usual for this time of year.
The ice cover is between 30-45 centimetres thick in southern and central parts of the country. In Oulu province thickness ranges from 35 to 55 centimetres and in Lapland from 50 to 70 centimetres.
In Lapland ice thickness has been measured at both above and below average levels, according to Finland's environmental administration, SYKE.
SYKE warns against walking on ice near currents, although lake ice covers are tens of centimetres deep in most parts of the country.
