Summer Sun Helps Boost Finland's Tourism Industry

Warm summer weather has helped spark business in Finland’s tourism industry. Finland’s EU presidency is expected to add to the boom later this year.

Demand for hotel and restaurant services is at its liveliest in years, according to representatives of Finland’s tourist industry, SME.

The sunny and warm summer has also promoted interest in summer house rentals and increased visits to campsites. Nearly one-third of summer cabin rentals are made from abroad. Most cottage renters hail from Russia and Germany.

Compared to last summer, the overall number of accommodations rented out this summer grew by about five percent. In addition to favourable weather, a larger number of registered travel vehicles is credited for the upsurge.

Finland is also hosting a variety of international meetings and summits this year. Approximately 80,000 people are expected to participate in meetings during Finland’s EU presidency, doubling the number of conference participants since last year. YLE24
