Energy Consumption Up by 11%

Consumption of electricity in Finland rose by almost 11% during the first half of 2006 compared to the same period last year. Domestic electricity tariffs also rose by 11%

According to figures issued by Statistics Finland, consumption of coal in electrcity generation was up by one-third more and that of wood by 30% Energy generation and carbon dioxide emissions were up last year by 10%

Behind the growth was an upswing in industrial power consumption following a lower level of usage due, in part, to a lengthy dispute in the paper industry in 2005.

Householders also faced larger electricity in the first half of the year.The price of domestic electricity increased by 11% compared to the same period last year.
