Finns Well-Represented in EU Institutions

Finns are well represented in official positions in the European Union, reports the newspaper Keskisuomalainen. Finns make up about three percent of the 31,000 officials working in the five main institutions of the EU.

The number is nearly three times higher than the percentage of Finns living in the EU. Finns make up close to 1.2 percent of the entire EU population.

The Council of the European Union has the largest share of Finnish officials, where they compose about five percent of the workforce.

In the European Court of Justice, Finns make up 4.5 percent of the workforce, while they compose 3.7 percent of the officials at the European Parliament. About 3.6 percent of the Court of Auditors and 2.7 percent of the officials at the European Commission are Finnish.
