Many Opt for Later Retirement

More people are continuing to stay on at work after the statutory age of retirement.

Since 2004, the employment rate of those aged between 60 and 64 has risen by almost ten percentage points. Many between the age of 63 and 67 have opted only for semi-retirement.

A decision to retire later is often influenced by the prospect of a higher pension. Also semi-retirement is only possible nowadays at the age of 58, instead of the previous age limit of 56.

Reforms to the country's retirement policy came into force two years ago. It allows, for example, people to stay on at work with the prospect of a higher pension.
