Moped Accidents on the Rise

The number of mopeds on Finland's roads is growing at a rapid speed. Accidents involving mopeds are on the rise as well.

In the past five years, the number of mopeds on Finland's roads has grown to 170,000. That is about 50,000 more than five years ago.

Accidents are also on the rise. The number of people injured in moped accidents has increased by 100 annually. According to police, many young moped drivers fail to follow all traffic rules.

Young drivers are required to obtain a moped licence. However the driving test consists only of a written exam.

Police add that proper use of helmets could have protected at least some of the victims. They also say that those who drive cars and other vehicles must be responsible, and watch out for moped drivers.
