Deputy Chancellor of Justice Jaakko Jonkka is expected to be named the next Chancellor of Justice. Jonkka has carried out the duties of the Chancellor of Justice since January, when the present holder of the position, Paavo Nikula, was incapacitated by a cerebral haemorrhage.
The Chancellor of Justice will be officially appointed by the President.
Paavo Nikula will retire in July. Jaakko Jonkka has been in his present position since 2001.
The role of the Chancellor of Justice is to rule on the legality of actions by state officials.
