The Prime Minister's economic policy advisor Jukka Ihanus notes that the new Chancellor of Justice Jaakko Jonkka does not see any reason why Vanhanen should not take part in what is set to be a controversial decision.
Jonkka's predecessor Paavo Nikula had felt that ministers who had taken strong positions in the debate on Helsinki's moves to annex parts of Sipoo territory, should not be involved in a government decision on the matter.
Previously, Minister of Trade and Industry Mauri Pekkarinen also reversed an earlier decision to stay out of the decision, and now plans to formally put the matter before the government at Thursday's meeting.
Minister of Culture Stefan Wallin says that he is still considering whether or not he feels that he has a conflict of interest in the matter.
