Finns Want to Maintain Public and Private Health Services
Most Finns want to maintain both public and private medical services. According to an ongoing study, many people take out private health insurance policies as a supplement to public health services, and not to replace them. More than 600,000 Finns already have private health insurance policies.

On the basis of the study taken in five university cities, the University of Kuopio researchers found that having private health insurance lowers the threshold to visit a doctor, and to increase the likelihood of choosing a private doctor.
More than 200,000 adults had private health insurance last year. More than 30,000 such policies had been taken by employers. Taking health insurance for children peaked in the 1980s.
