Inflation Accelerates in September

The year-on-year change in consumer prices, i.e. inflation, calculated by Statistics Finland stood at 2.6 percent in September. The figure for August was 2.3 percent.

Fuelling inflation were an increase in fuel prices and a rise in housing costs.

Factors behind the rise in housing costs were higher mortgage interest rates, higher tariffs for renovation work and an increase in rents. Inflation was also affected by higher phone charges, increased interest rates on consumer loans, rising food prices and the cost of motoring.

However, the inflationary trend was offset in September by lower prices for domestic electrical appliances and computer equipment. Used cars were also cheaper.

Consumer prices rose from August to September by 0.5 percent.
