Income Restrictions on Student Benefits Ease

Regulations governing how much parents' incomes affect student financial benefits are being eased. The ceiling on earnings is being raised by about 30%.

Parents' annual incomes influence the amount of study grants made available to under 20 year-olds in secondary education and housing supports for students under the age of 18.

The adjustments will have the greatest impact of the level of benefits received by secondary school and vocational school students from middle-income families.

Students will now be entitled to full study grants and housing supports if their parents' incomes do not exceed 40,800 euros per annum.
