The Finnish Food Safety Authority Evira has initiated inspections at farms suspected of animal welfare violations.
Evira was given information on a total of 16 farms suspected of having violated animal welfare legislation.
The animal welfare organisation Oikeutta Eläimille ("Justice for Animals") has given police information on where its supporters shot video footage which was shown on the YLE current affairs programme A-studio on Wednesday.
The videos showed pigs and chickens being kept in squalid conditions. The organisation says that it has information of 101 farms where animals have been mistreated.
