Fresh Efforts to End Pharmacists' Strike

A fresh effort will be made to mediate an end to the pharmacists' strike on Friday morning. The last round of talks broke off on Tuesday.

Negotiations have been going on for two weeks with no visible progress. The strike now affects 60 percent of the country's pharmacies.

The 9,000-member Finnish Pharmacists' Association is prepared for a long strike. The union is seeking pay wages averaging 500 euros a month over the next two to three years.

Some 9,300 pharmacists, dispensers and students belong to the union; the majority of them work in privately-owned pharmacies.
