A fire on Sunday evening at the Mustikkamaa Boatyard in Helsinki damaged dozens of boats before fire services managed to get the blaze under control. The winter dock yard houses roughly one hundred vessels. One dozen fire fighting units were sent to put out the blaze. The Helsinki emergency services says no one was endangered by the fire. Officials said the fire did not threaten surrounding structures. They added that the gases released in the blaze could be irritating, though not hazardous, and advised nearby residents to keep doors, windows and ventilation systems closed. Eyewitnesses reported that the flames could be seen as far away as Arabianranta and explosions could be heard. They were evidently caused by gas canisters on the vessels. YLE
