More Road Accidents in Snowy South

Steady snowfall caused minor collisions in southern Finland on Monday and early Tuesday, however no serious accidents have been reported. On Tuesday conditions are expected to be poor throughout the country except the far north. Police in the Uusimaa region report that two people have been hospitalised following car accidents on Tuesday morning, one on Highway 1 in Vihti and one on a ramp linking the Lahti motorway and Ring I. There was also a truck accident in Jalasjärvi, near Tampere. Light snowfall is expected through most of the country on Tuesday, with heavier snow moving over the south coast in the evening and overnight. Police reported some 70 fender benders or cars running off the road in southern Finland on Monday. However rescue officials said the number of accidents is surprisingly low, considering the slippery road conditions. Several minor accidents occurred in morning traffic on the Turku motorway near Ring Road III. Traffic quickly snarled and Espoo police say that cars were strewn all over the roadway. No one was injured in the mêlée. Three people were injured in an accident involving four cars on Highway 2. Traffic was held up due to that collision. Several accidents also occurred in the Tampere area due to slippery roads. YLE
