First Insurance Claims Paid Following Nokia Water Crisis

The first insurance claims have been paid out to individuals affected by the water contamination crisis in the town of Nokia late last year. The insurance company If says it has received between 50 and 60 claims so far. Officials expect to be flooded with several hundred more claims. So far, most of the claims have been from private individuals. The town's liability insurance will cover expenses up to one million euros. If compensation should exceed one million euros, the town will be responsible for footing the bill. A stomach flu epidemic hit the town of Nokia in December after sewage treatment water was allowed to mix with drinking water. YLE
