The company will close its unprofitable Lielahti pulp mill in Tampere and one paper machine at Kangas Mill in Jyväskylä.
Last November, the company announced its plans to cut jobs. Production at the paper machine in Kangas ends Wednesday, while the Lielahti Mill closes this spring. The company said the rising cost of wood is partly to blame for the layoffs.
M-real added that the restructuring programme is aimed at achieving annual savings of 100 million euros. YLE, Startel
