Guards Reprimanded at Vantaa Prison over Jailbreak

Vantaa prison has handed its prison guards a written warning following the jailbreak that occurred at the facility in February.

Neglect on the part of three prison guards has been pinned as the reason the Estonian prisoner managed to scale four walls, two of which were fortified with barbed wire.

What more, the prisoner, who was on remand for car theft, escaped from the high security prison on a Friday -- but his absence went unnoticed until the following day.

The prison's warden Tuomo Junkkari says the matter with the personnel has now been brought to a close.

Vantaa prison is currently understaffed, while one-fifth of the personnel lack formal prison guard training.
