The reason for the cool down in heating revenues was given as the higher than average temperatures. Sales of district heating and related production were four percent lower than average. However heating sales in the month of March were the highest of the entire winter.
On the whole, conditions this winter have been warmer than any other on record. Calculations by the energy industry indicate that energy used for heating between October and March was 13 percent lower than usual.
The warm weather has added up to average savings of about 57 cents per square metre for consumers of district heating. Savings for residents in apartment blocks were 45 euros per household and 85 euros for consumers living in their own detached homes.
Roughly half of buildings in Finland are heated by district heating systems.
