Finland's Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Sirkka-Liisa Anttila has stressed the importance of self-sufficient food production. According to Anttila, the recent world food crisis demonstrates the importance of maintaining one's own food supply, particularly during times of unrest. She added that Finland hopes to secure profitability of food production with EU agricultural policy reforms. Anttila said the continuation of sugar production is important when considering emergency food supplies. The EU does not have common emergency supplies. Instead, each member state manages emergency supplies themselves. YLE
