A violent hail storm in Suonenjoki, central Finland, has damaged hundred of cars. Insurance companies say the damage was so bad that many of the cars were banged up beyond repair. Slide Show of Hail Storm The hail, which struck the area on Wednesday, pummelled cars and caused significant bodywork damage even to brand new cars. Many insurance policies state that a car will be replaced if damages exceed a third of the value of the car. The golf-ball sized hail easily caused more than six or seven thousand euros' worth of damages per car, meaning that insurance companies are having to cough up money for dozens of new vehicles. The hail also caused significant damage to the area's strawberry fields. Tens of thousands of kilograms of ripe and raw berries were destroyed, and fields of still-flowering plants were also shredded.
Insurance companies have also received damage claims for dented tin and plastic roofs, patio furniture, and cloth awnings with holes punched through them.
