Low overnight temperatures caused roads to ice over, even in southern Finland, bringing out the salt machines. According to the Finnish Road Administration, roads were slipperiest in Lapland and eastern Finland.

However by morning, driving conditions had for the most part returned to normal.

Low lying areas and roads near bridges were most prone to be icy, however no serious traffic accidents were reported as a result of the slick conditions.

Cars ran off roads in Mäntsälä and Varkaus, while fender benders were reported in Turku and the Kainuu region.

On Wednesday the Finnish Meteorological Service predicted poor driving conditions due to frosty roads in many parts of the country. Also on Wednesday afternoon many minor road accidents occurred as a result of snow, as well as hail and sleet.
