As of Sunday, an on-the-spot fine can be handed to persons who do not stop drinking in public after being approached by police.

Police now also have the right to search the bags and clothing of people under 18 suspected of carrying alcohol.

The new law aims to curb youth drinking and stem alcohol sales to minors.
