On Tuesday the company announced that it may axe more than 400 jobs due to a floundering market.

"You can sense that employees are extremely disappointed by the current situation," says the shipyard's Chief Shop Steward Jari Aalto.

Negotiations with unions on layoffs and cost-cutting will most likely affect all departments at the shipyard. Around 2,300 people are employed at the STX Europe shipyard.

At the end of October, the shipyard completed the world's biggest cruise ship, the Oasis of the Seas. They are now working on its sister ship, the Allure of the Seas, but after that, there is no work for the shipyard.
