Katainen: Prevention of Tragedy Not A Money Matter

Jyrki Katainen, Finance Minister and Chairman of the National Coalition Party, has taken a firm stand in favour of immediate tightening of gun laws. Speaking at a party gathering Saturday, Katainen said he supports loosening the confidentiality of health information and has called for speedy remedial action in Finland.

The Party leader said members of the online community should have the same moral and ethical compass and the same understanding of right and wrong that they would have in the real world.

Katainen also promised no shortage of funding for the fight against school killings. However he declared that the Jokela and Kauhajoki incidents were about more than just money.

"I want every Finn to take this seriously. It's right to look after your neighbour. It's right to know if all is well with the grandmother next door. It's right to tell the officials if someone's behaviour worries you," he explained.

Katainen also took the opportunity to launch the party's platform for the municipal elections. The central themes are primary education, health services, home services for the elderly, community, and the welfare of municipal workers.
