Couple Convicted of Raising Fighting Dogs

A couple in southern Finland have been convicted of animal cruelty for breeding dogs for fighting.

The man was handed a year's probationary sentence for violations of animal protection, bookkeeping, and gun laws. The woman was fined for breaking animal protection legislation.

The court in Lohja found that the couple had bred dogs specifically for blood sport and had sold them under forged registration information.

The case came to light from a BBC investigative special. Some of the reporters' surreptitiously filmed footage was used in court.
