Government will also order a report into overlap between the National Police Board and the Interior Ministry’s police department.

Interior Minister Päivi Räsänen announced the confirmation of the long-planned reforms after a meeting of the Ministerial Working Group on Internal Security.

There will be no cuts in the number of traffic police officers, although they will be integrated into local police departments. Around 240 management positions will be eliminated as the traffic police's separate structure is dismantled.

In addition, driving licenses will transfer from the traffic police to the transport safety agency Trafi.
