Wintry road conditions cause spate of accidents

Slippery roads and snow caused mayhem on Finnish roads on Saturday. There have been several traffic accidents, one of them fatal.

The accident occurred Saturday afternoon in North Karelia's Kitee. A car crashed into an oncoming van, after losing control on an icy and snowy road bend.

Both passengers in the car – a man born in 1930 and a woman born 1939 – died instantly in the collision, according to the police

In Kangasala, two people were seriously injured in an accident involving three vehicles earlier on in the day, and several other accidents have also been reported.

A warning of bad road conditions has been issued for south-western Finland, and the provinces of Uusimaa, southern Ostrobothnia and Ostrobothnia, where strong winds as well as snow continue to obstruct drivers.
