Speaking on the Yle TV1 programme Ykkösaamu on Saturday, Kiuru said more powers should be given to the state-owned Kruunuasunnot company for the construction of more social housing.

“A state-run firm can ensure that set quotas for reasonably priced rental homes could be achieved,” the minister claimed.

She also said sanctions could be imposed on those local government authorities who refuse to relinquish suitable land for the building of homes. She said real estate tax could be levied on unbuilt land.
