Slight delays in long-distance train services by the Finnish State Railways VR are expected until around midday on Thursday following a traffic-control system failure in Tampere.
The problem, which began around 9pm Wednesday, was not fixed until 5.30am Thursday. As a result, about 10 trains were left at a standstill in Tampere. Several morning departures were cancelled and half a dozen northbound night trains suffered delays of several hours.
Wednesday evening’s express train from Helsinki to Rovaniemi in Finnish Lapland at 9.52pm arrived five and a half hours late.
Updates on the situation are available on VR's website.
