The Finns with the most followers on Twitter, the micro-blogging service created in 2006, have been gathered and ranked. In addition to followers, Finnish users were ranked by Klout, a service rating the value of the users’ impact.
Almost all of the Finns in the top ten of the ‘most popular’ listing have strong global links - politicians, pundits, a top racing driver and an international rock star. Another common feature is language. Most of the popular tweeters use English, with only an occasional thought written in Finnish or Swedish (Finland’s second official language).
Although Twitter has had a slow start in Finland, people of influence are leading the surge. A striking number of ‘Ordinary Joes’ and ‘Plain Janes’ have made it on the top 100 list, suggesting more and more Finns are discovering the service.
