A high pressure zone hovering over Finland will bathe almost the entire country in warm temperatures for the next few days.
“If the high pressure zone remains to block a low pressure area moving in from the southwest, then the heat will last for at least three days,” said Yle meteorologist Elina Lopperi.
According to Lopperi skies will begin to cloud over after the weekend, but conditions will remain balmy. However extremely high temperatures are not in the forecast.
On Saturday daytime highs approached 30 degrees Celsius, reaching 26 degrees by midday in Hämeenlinna and parts of the west. The heat is also forecast to envelope the south and the north, with heavy clouds and rain pushing highs below 20 degrees only in Kilpisjärvi in the far northwest.
Local showers in the air
According to the Yle meteorologist, the warm weather may cause clouds to build up and break, causing showers in some areas. In spite of fine conditions across much of the country Saturday, clouds started massing in the Tampere region.
“Because of the calm conditions we can expect the rain systems to move very slowly, and this can cause very heavy local showers,” Lopperi explained.
