Olkiluoto 2 back in action by Sunday

Utility Teollisuuden Voima (TVO) says that its Olkiluoto 2 nuclear reactor on Finland's west coast will be functioning again by Sunday – two days earlier than expected. The unit has been off the grid since Monday due to a generator fault.

On Wednesday TVO estimated that the second Olkiluoto nuclear reactor in Eurajoki, western Finland, would return to operation next Tuesday. However, production manager Mikko Kosonen now says that things will be running smoothly by as early as Sunday.

“We’ve been working together with the generator supplier to locate the fault and repairs are well underway. We’ll ensure the smooth running of the generator through a variety of checks. Our plan is to start ramping-up plant unit operations today, and the return to electricity production is scheduled for Sunday the 15th of September,” announced Kosonen.

The company says the shutdown does not pose any danger to the public.
