Häkämies: 20 euros is the ceiling

Confederation of Finnish Industries Director Jyri Häkämies says the 20 euro maximum pay rise agreed to in the collective wage negotiations is not open to interpretation. It includes everything.

According to him 20 euros per month is the maximum rise that can be granted and includes all bonuses.

"It is clearly unequivocal in the text and negotiations on this matter. That 20 euro contractual rise is the ceiling. Then if there is any bonus or addition, it is included in that 20 euros," said Häkämies.

The industries head added that there are historical examples to back him up.

"I have to go back pretty far in history, to when there were euro amount increases, but when you look for examples of issues like this, then bonuses were agreed upon separately. So with regards to this issue, 20 euros is the ceiling,” he told Yle news.

His statement comes in the wake of squabbling between unions and employees over the terms of the recently negotiated wage settlement.
