The 39,000 purchases affected were made last Thursday, 16 January, with S-Etukortti charge cards Diners Cards or American Express credit cards.

“The error occurred at many of our locations around Finland,” says Juha Ahola, SOK’s financial director.

An error in the S-Group’s payment system levied the payments from customer accounts twice. The cooperative says that all the erroneous purchases will be refunded on Wednesday or Thursday.

No action from customers is required.

The S-Group was established in 1904 as a group of cooperatives, Suomen Osuuskauppojen Keskuskunta (SOK). It operates grocery stores, restaurants and hotels, petrol stations and car dealerships among other businesses.
