Solidium: Metso in good shape as independent firm

The Finnish state’s investment company Solidium is not looking to sell or reduce its stake in Metso despite interest from the Scottish firm Weir. Solidium Managing Director Kari Järvinen told Yle that Metso is a good company that has good prospects as an independent entity.

The Finnish engineering firm has undergone reorganization and lay-offs in recent years as it struggled with the difficult economic climate. The Finnish state owns 11 percent of the company through the Solidium holding company and is not keen to sell.

“At the moment there is no information about what kind of possible indications from Weir might be,” said Järvinen. “As such I can say that Metso is a good and very interesting company, it is well managed and it has good future prospects as an independent firm.”

Metso confirmed on Tuesday that it had received an unsolicited approach from Weir regarding a possible takeover bid.
